Meadows Shore series by Eva Charles ♥ Review, Book Tour & 2 GIVEAWAYS ♥ (Contemporary Romance)

Prepare to fall in love with the Claytons and Harringtons and their rich Portuguese heritage. A Wedding at Meadows Shore is the first book in the series. In it, you’ll meet the family and visit their beloved Meadows Shore nestled along the moody Atlantic in the charming seaside town of Fair Harbor.

It all begins with Sophie’s story, where she discards the past and learns to trust herself and others. The series follows the lives of her sisters and cousins while they, too, sort through their baggage and fall in love. Travel with them on their romantic journeys, stopping in rural Minnesota, New Orleans, and other enchanted places along the way.

They are wealthy and powerful, but suffer pain and loss much like the rest of us. Even great privilege can't shield them from those experiences. But despite their wealth and power, I think you'll find them approachable and down-to-earth—or as Cole Harrington would say: “We put our pants on one leg at a time, same as everybody else.”

There's an old Portuguese adage, "the rooster crows loudly, but it’s the hen who’s in charge.” And so it is with the Claytons and Harringtons: strong women, alpha males, and of course, Avó Angelina, the family matriarch who keeps them all on their best behavior.

Bem vindo à família, Welcome to the family!

Meadows Shore is the childhood home of the five Clayton sisters and the six Harrington brothers, the family seat where these irresistible characters gather regularly … or whenever they need the comfort of Portuguese home cooking and the love and wisdom of elder women.

After Sophie Clayton catches her husband in bed with a young intern, she creates a new life for herself as the executive director of a failing domestic violence agency. It’s the perfect job for a woman born to fix everything. A friend’s broken heart, a tattered agency, a flat tire—she’ll roll up her sleeves and make it as good as new. Sophie rarely encounters anything she can’t fix…until she meets the devastatingly handsome and insufferably arrogant, Max Parker. One of Boston’s most eligible bachelors, he’s never without a stunning young woman on his arm and in his bed.

When Sophie’s forced to deal with Max, sparks fly, and somewhere in the crossfire of verbal daggers and clever barbs, she discovers his darkest secret.

All books in the Meadows Shore series are meant to be read as stand-alone novels—without cliff-hangers.
Please be advised that the profanity and graphic sexual content contained in this novel are not appropriate for anyone under the age of 18.

A feel-good contemporary romance!

Everything about the story was great, but I especially liked the character of Sophie. She was truly a strong, independent woman, and she was written in such a way that these attributes were evident but I wasn't beaten over the head with them (like I am in some other romance novels).

The evolving relationship between Sophie and Max kept me turning the pages to see how their Happily Ever After would turn out. and it didn't disappoint! They experienced their share of twists and turns, but it was all worth it at the end :)
I was introduced to many wonderful and interesting characters in this book, and I can't wait to read their stories too!

All in all. This is a solid contemporary romance read, and I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

Meadows Shore is the childhood home of the five Clayton sisters and the six Harrington brothers, the family seat where these irresistible characters gather regularly, or whenever they need the comfort of Portuguese home cooking and the love and wisdom of elder women.

Cole Harrington, the oldest of those swoon-worthy Harrington brothers, is a gifted trauma surgeon with a cocky smile and a whole lot of swagger. He’s assigned an executive coach after he smashes the thermostat in the operating room to smithereens.

Alexa Petersen is a nice girl from Minnesota who’s been tasked with shadowing the naughty trauma surgeon, and writing a report to end his promising career. While she might prefer pretty lace panties, Alexa’s not afraid to slip on a pair of steel-toed boots when Cole needs to be knocked down a notch or two.

Hospital drama and small-town woes, the truth obscured by secrets and lies. Where nothing is as it appears—not even Cole and Alexa.

This series keeps getting better!

I absolutely LOVED this book. Another spectacular contemporary romance by Eva.

I REALLY enjoyed reading Cole's character. As the story went on and I learned who Cole REALLY was, I had one of those "huh....hmmm" moments where I stopped to think and once again reminded myself to never "judge a book by its cover."Alexa was put into an unenviable situation and truly made the best of it. I liked how she didn't take any guff from Cole, and she kept her professional boundaries intact, even with a fierce internal struggle of keeping things platonic vs. not. While this book is a stand-alone, I was able to catch up with the characters from the first book, which made me smile.

All in all, a positively WONDERFUL romance, and I CAN'T WAIT to read more in this series!!!

Drew Harrington loves baseball, drumming and Cassie Anteros, although not necessarily in that order. After his parents die, Drew finds comfort in all the wrong places, until Cassie discovers him passed out, facedown, in his own vomit.

Cassie Anteros is a big-hearted, sheltered princess who Drew abandons when he leaves school to get himself together. After graduation, with an Ivy League degree in hand and years of grooming behind her, Cassie is well-positioned to take over her father’s Wall Street firm, but a lump in her left breast sets her life on a different path.

Now eight years later, he’s the very sexy general manager of the Boston Blues baseball team, and she’s an award-winning baker in Baltimore. When the two come face-to-face, the earth trembles under their feet, threatening to swallow them whole. She still owns a piece of his soul, and he lives-on in her heart, but is that enough for Drew and Cassie to get a second chance at love, or has time and suffering already sealed their fate?

Another wonderful book in this series!

I was pulled in from page 1. After reading the synopsis and then reading Drew for a few pages, I just could not WAIT for he and Cassie to be reconnected. I couldn't wait to see what that initial reintroduction would be like!

This was, for me, the most emotional book of the series so far. It deals with some pretty heavy issues, but Eva did a phenomenal job of discussing these issues with tact and dignity. (No spoilers here!)

Eva balanced this book perfectly with sizzle and lightheartedness, but also some darker emotions that made this book seem very REAL.

I liked that I got to catch up with Sophie and Cole (from books 1 and 2, respectively), and it was nice that I got a better glimpse of the other characters, all of whom I'm sure will get their own stories too (can't wait!!!).

This whole series is so well done, and each is a solid, well-written contemporary romance. I'm hooked!

I was temporarily filling in for the medical interpreter at Cambridge City Hospital, when unbeknownst to me, several male medical students had a bet going about which one could convince me to go out with him, first. Thirty years and two children later, the winner of that bet is still happy he won, and so am I.

In each book of the Meadows Shore series, there are several hidden references to pop culture, local lore, and history. Some are thinly veiled, others are plain as day: Room 222, Nurse Ratched, and gorilla costumes. Do you recognize these? Can you find others?

I love writing heroes, because I love boys. We raised two sons, and our house and life was always filled with boys. As a mom who’d always been a bit of a girl’s girl, I had a front row seat to how little, and big boys think. All the juicy tidbits I overheard, or that they shared with me while I ferried carloads to and from the movies, dances, and sporting events, whipped-up late night snacks, and served breakfast after sleepovers, gave me quite an education. It was also an incredible privilege.

The town of Fair Harbor is a fictional composite made-up of a few shore towns in Southeastern Massachusetts. I know that a handful of people are POSITIVE it is their town, but no, it really is a composite. However, Meadows Shore did once exist, called by a slightly different name. An extraordinarily wealthy man built two identical homes, summerhouses, on the property for his twin daughters more than a century ago. The homes were enormous, so large, that a few curious five year-olds once got lost inside while their mothers sipped wine on the patio that overlooked the ocean. Yes, I was one of those negligent moms, visiting a good friend who lived there at the time.

I wrote and self-published my first book last year at age 55. Even though I had once argued cases before ornery judges in federal court, I was terrified at the prospect of putting my work out there, and I kept it a secret from almost everyone. With time, and the kindness of others, I’ve gotten a little braver, but it’s still scary. Telling people that I write books, still feels absurd, like telling them I’m entering a bikini contest. And trust me, no one, I mean no one, wants to see me in a bikini!

From Petite Madeleine

The waitress brought a dish of plump dumplings with golden, crispy skins. “These little suckers are amazing. Close your eyes,” he said carefully lifting the plumpest dumpling off the plate with chopsticks, and giving it a quick dunk in the sauce.

“Close my eyes?”

“Yeah. Everything’s better with your eyes closed. Your sense of smell, and all the sensations on your tongue, will be heightened.”

She leaned toward him, resting a hand on his thigh. “Are we talking about dumplings? Because I remember that you liked me to keep my eyes open.”

His groan sent a shudder, a powerful surge through him that nearly dislodged the dumpling from the chopsticks and sent it toppling into her lap.

His Adam’s apple bobbed, and he leaned closer to her. “We’ll try it both ways, first with your eyes open so I can watch you come apart, and then you’ll close them, and I’ll use my imagination when you begin to tumble…” He leaned in even closer. “But I’m not sure if I can trust you not to peek, we may need a blindfold to keep you honest.”

She gulped softly, and a small moan escaped from her lips.

He smiled. “Just remember, I’m not the one who keeps steering the conversation in that direction. Now close ‘em,” he commanded, bringing the succulent morsel to her mouth.

Eva Charles is the author of the multi-titled Meadows Shore Series chronicling the lives and loves of the Clayton-Harrington family. She invites you to visit their beloved Meadows Shore, nestled in the charming seaside town of Fair Harbor, where you’ll enjoy love, laughter, loyalty, and an abundance of mouth-watering food, Portuguese style.
After being a confirmed city-girl for more than thirty-five years, Eva moved to beautiful western Massachusetts in 2014. There, she found herself living in the woods with no job, no friends (unless you count the turkeys, deer, and coyotes roaming the backyard), and no children underfoot, wondering what on earth she’d been thinking. But as it turned out, it was the perfect setting to take all those yarns spinning in her head and weave them into a romantic tale.

When she’s not writing, trying to squeeze information out of her tight-lipped sons or playing with the two cutest dogs you’ve ever seen, Eva’s creating chapters in her own love story.

    1. Hello Nikolina! I'm very appreciative of Lauren's reviews also! It takes precious time to write a thoughtful review of a book and then post it, but it's much appreciated. Reviews are the best advertisement for a book, and they help writers find their readers. Think of how many books you've read because of a well-written review.
